The task of protecting oneself online can be daunting and time-consuming.
Connect to Protect was a live online workshop hosted by intermedia artist Sage Sidley, facilitated by the MSVU Art Gallery and CFAT, in K'jipuktuk, Mi'kma'ki.
Riffing off of the buzzy language of online DIY self-care, the
light-hearted workshop provided participants with tools to protect
their data tracked by social media giants via their digital devices.
Participants were calmly led through step-by-step procedures on their devices to detox their data and prevent further personal data from being collected.
The performance-based lecture was followed by a Q & A with Cortney Cassidy. Closed captioning is provided. A recorded version of the workshop is available here:
In addition to the workshop, participants are invited to consult, revisit, and share a dedicated open-source website designed by Sidley to connect the content of the live session and additional user-based research regarding data collection protection. Users can access the information discussed in the workshop and collaborative research resources here.
